Short video of the Christmas Lights being switched on in Abbeyfeale tonight, 1st December. (sorry about soundtrack)
Christmas finally arrived in Abbeyfeale on Friday evening with the big switch-on of the festive lights and the brand new Christmas Tree in The Square.
Santa and Mrs Clause arrived down from the North Pole and were mobbed by excited children as they made there way to Santa’s Grotto.
A huge crowd gathered for the occasion, with Johnnie Walsh acting as MC and giving his usual polished performance in entertaining the masses.
The lights were switched on by a trio of young local celebrities. World Champion kick-boxer, Kori Goad, Irish Youth soccer player, Chris Smith and All-Ireland concertina player, Maura O’Connor flicked the switch to illuminate the town and declare that Christmas had officially started.
The Christmas Tree was designed by the Doody Family and sponsored by the local Kostal factory. It drew a loud cheer from the crowd, who were probably relieved that they would have carol singers rather than canvassers calling to their doors during the Christmas period!
Local businesses displayed their wares and handed out samples from stalls around The Square – a reminder that there is still value for money in shops in Abbeyfeale and people should shop local if possible.
Well done to all concerned. The lights and the Christmas Tree really add to the yuletide festivities.
A little snow on Christmas Day and our joy will be complete.
